In the White Inside

Vilnius

2018

In an old estate in Vilnius, an almost century-old house with an area of 152 square meters was rebuilt. However, the goal was set to preserve as much as possible - both in the outdoor volumes and in the details. The spruce finish was updated and left untouched inside the house, even maintaining the movement pattern of the house in a circle, two fireplaces, flooring, and the attic. The interior is designed to extend the idea of a century-old building. The architecture incorporates the sun, as in ancient times: in the house, you can observe a different interior created by the light: in the morning, it looks one way, in the evening - another. Not only does the sun rotate in the house, but people can also move in that direction. When all the doors are open, children can run around in circles continuously without bumping into obstacles. The surfaces are chosen to be almost white - as a calm and quiet expression of these homes. The interior is like a white canvas, which residents can color as they wish, inheriting and creating a good mood with new items. The narrow spaces between the rooms (enhanced floorboards, the covering of the old attic) seem to frame the volume of the house and enhance its value. The interior is illuminated by interpenetrating sources of natural light, and natural light now visits the house until dusk. And when it gets completely dark, the light emanating from inside the house illuminates almost the entire courtyard, and the house becomes like a large garden lantern.
