Observation space
Dūburys Island
2016
Festival "Mėnuo Juodaragis," 2015-2023.
It is an open and public, natural, windy observation deck inviting a new way of seeing and feeling the ever-changing, strictly undefined cultural formation reflected in nature. The observation deck is built on a high eastern cliff, with a lake at the bottom. Its structure, movement, and thought are akin to the whispering or calm lake, the rustling or silent pine forest, the shifting clouds, or the infinite expanse of the sky.
The interior space is understood and composed in two layers, like an eye. One layer represents a natural oval courtyard in the pine forest, while the other layer is an architectural structure created in the center of that courtyard. There are no objects or furniture, or rules of behavior here. The entire focus of the design was on creating such an architectural-sculptural body that, by containing its boundary material residues, would invite people to observe an incomparable and ever-changing world and experience personal, changing perspectives.
Different experiences await visitors here. For some, it evokes childhood memories, dreams, a place for catching thoughts, the mood of a wedding, or a state of not needing to run anywhere... or a sanctuary.
The construction utilizes pine logs, white and black paints, burnt wire ropes, and 9-meter white canvas.
