"The Living Monument, Memory Disc for Stasys Povilaitis."
This monument is created not only as an object but also as a meditative Space. The sounds of gongs and wind, the reflections of dawn, sunsets, and night constellations invite individuals to wonder, creating a living experience and memory.
The chosen location is the favorite spot of the singer - the seaside. The title "VĖL" (AGAIN) is associated with several of Stasys Povilaitis' cult songs, such as "Vėl skalauja jūra krantą" (Again the sea washes the shore), "Vėl, švieski man vėl" (Again, shine on me again), emphasizing his cultural and immortal memory.
This is an abstract, disc-shaped metaphor, containing elements of music records, the disk's echoing grooves, a gong, or simply the circle symbolizing the cycle of eternity.
Material. Since polished steel is chosen as the material, the sculpture acts as an absorbing and reflecting field. The mirrored surface would provide a contemporary context for the sculpture.
Light. During dark times, it would serve as a beacon of light (additional artificial lighting), a spot of light in the landscape, and a clear mark when viewed from the sea.
Wind. The sculpture would also serve as a windbreak, with one whistling needle-like structure in the center.
Music. The entire sculpture would act as a musical disc - a gong that can be played. The living auditory relationship could possibly transcend the material.
Words. Stasys Povilaitis' memory inscriptions would be engraved on the inner sphere of the disk (concentric grooves, some words from several of his songs, and the date of memory).
Location. In a coastal landscape (the exact location to be determined by coordinating with the existing and prospective urban and cultural axes of Palanga city. An initial proposed location would be from the intersection of Vydūnas and Meilės Avenue, heading towards the sea, veering slightly to the right, northwest). A wooden path leading to the sculpture's location is planned.
Form and construction. Slightly curved, made of non-rusting polished steel spherical disc (380x392x15cm) with a 6mm edge, mounted on a base with a thickness increasing to 20mm. The base - d80cm G/b steel. Around the sculpture within a 5m radius, a layer of broken stones, compacted soil, and covered with sand from the dunes would visually create the impression of an object standing in the sand.
